People’s Police Academy holds training workshop on “Human rights in criminal investigation”

Following the workshop held in Lang Son on April 1st, 2011, in the framework of cooperation project between Vietnam and the Danish Institute for Human Rights, the Switzerland Embassy in Vietnam, the UK Embassy in Vietnam on guaranteeing human rights in police work, under the consent of the leadership of the Ministry of Public Security, the People’s Police Academy (PPA) in cooperation with these agencies and the Quang Binh Province Police, between March 9th-11th, 2011 in Quang Binh Province held a training workshop on “Human rights in criminal investigation”

The training workshops was held under the chair of Major General, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Canh, Deputy Director of the PPA, with the participation of experts from the Danish Institute for Human Rights, representatives of the Quang Binh Police, some of leaders and deputy leaders of investigating agencies, investigators, and staffs working at detention centers of the provinces of Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue.

Overview of the workshop between March 9th-11th, 2011


 The workshop focused on five main topics, including general issues on human rights, human rights for vulnerable groups, role of police in society; police with respecting and protecting human rights in investigation activities; and police’s morality.

After listening to lecturers and reporters talked briefly workshop’s content, the workshop focused on discussing and contributing opinions to clarify the theoretical and practical issues on content of special subjects, commented on their strong and weak points to compile, edit, and complete before officially using

After 3 days, the workshop has ended successfully on March 11th, 2011.

This is the final workshop under the cooperation project between the Danish Institute for Human Rights, the Switzerland Embassy in Vietnam, the UK Embassy in Vietnam. After the workshop, representatives of the Danish Institute for Human Rights Mr. Paul Daltal and representatives of the PPA appreciated the efforts of both sides in process of implementing the project (from 2008 to 2011). This project has laid the important foundation for other cooperation activities between both sides in the future.
