Police arrest trans-national high-tech crime group

The Police of Phu Yen central province has detained 57 suspects, including 55 foreigners, accused of using high-tech to cheat and appropriate properties.


Of the detained foreigners, 27 are Chinese and 28 others are Taiwanese passport holders. All the detainees did not register temporary residence at any hotel.

At the same time, a suspect relating to the case was arrested in HCM City .

The police seized 14 desktops, 108 fixed telephones, 13 walkie-talkies, 14 mobile phones, 10 wireless transmission devices and a printer among others as exhibits.

Colonel Pham Van Hoa, Director of the Phu Yen Police, said the criminal group installed equipment in Phu Yen province and build scenarios to cheat people in many countries around the world.

They operated during a period of about two or three months before the National Day holiday, the police officer said.

Further investigations are underway on the case, which is the sixth high-tech crime the Vietnamese police have cracked down. The Five previous cases were detected in HCM City , the Mekong delta city of Can Tho and southern Binh Duong province.
